RTVFD was founded in 1970 to serve Richland Township, just to the north of Anderson in Madison County, Indiana. Covering approximately 28 square miles, the township includes the north edge of the town of Anderson and the unincorporated town of Moonsville and serves a population of 4,775 as of the 2010 census.
The fire department is currently structured as two fire companies, which staff and operate the fire apparatus, and one EMS company, which staffs and operates the two ambulances, with a full-time fire chief overseeing department operations. After 46 years of being fully volunteer, we are in the process of staffing six part-time paid firefighter/EMT positions in order to improve our coverage and response time and allow us to better serve the citizens of Richland Township.
Currently, the roster stands at 35 personnel, including 18 firefighters, 15 firefighter/EMTs and 2 EMTs, and we just brought on an excellent group of new probationary members through our most recent recruit training process.
