Quick Response Limits Damage in Scatterfield House Fire

At 5:58 pm on Tuesday, December 27, Station 40 was dispatched, along with automatic aid from Lafayette Township and Chesterfield, to a house fire at Scatterfield and Iroquois in Anderson. Battalion 40 arrived four minutes after dispatch with Engine 48 on scene just two minutes after. On arrival, there were flames shooting through the roof. The occupants had safely evacuated, along with the family dog, after being notified of the fire by passersby. A very quick knockdown by the first crews on scene limited the fire damage mostly to the attic area over the garage. RTVFD and mutual aid crews from Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Department, Chesterfield-Union Township Fire Department and Alexandria Fire Department spent the next several hours working to ensure all hotspots were out and to minimize the damage to the remainder of the structure. Madison County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency controlled traffic on Scatterfield as visibility was extremely limited due to the heavy smoke. This was an excellent response by all departments involved, and Station 40 would like to thank all of our mutual aid partners who came out to assist with this fire!
